Darkness and Light
Photographs, Acrylics, Pastels
March 18 - 31, 2010
Laura Coombs Hills Gallery
Reception: Friday, March 19, 7-9 pm

My great grandfather emigrated from Germany, settled in Brooklyn, NY and was employed as an architect on the design of the Chas Schwab mansion on Riverside Drive, NYC. My grandfather, an illustrator for a dept store in Manhattan. My father, a photoengraver. Painting is my passion in life.

I attempt to create serene, contemplative landscapes where one can be alone in a natural, beautiful setting.

I enjoy working with pastels because of their unique ability to create soft, dreamy images; and acrylics for their saturation and brilliance that can create the darkest of shadows and the lightest of highlights -the blue or yellow of the sky, the terra cotta and burnt sienna of the ground and turquoise in dark shadows is a
combination that I’m very drawn to for the vibrancy of color and strong emotive light.
