May 20 - June 18, 2006
The Newburyport Art Association hosts their 9th Annual Regional Juried Show from May 20th through June 18th. The media includes Painting, Sculpture, Drawing, Photography, Printmaking, Water-based media, and Mixed Media. This is the largest show of the year for the NAA and includes non-members as well. Three hundred and sixty-six entries from two Hundred and twenty-two artists submitted work for acceptance from all over the New England region.
Juror: Laura Donaldson. Laura is the Director of the Mills Gallery at The Boston Center for the Arts. As Director of the Mills Gallery, Ms. Donaldson is responsible for the curatorial direction and management, and curates 10-12 exhibitions per year. Previously she was at Montserrat College of Art for five years. She is an MFA Candidate at The University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth and has a BFA at Murray State University. In addition, she is an artist who has had solo and group exhibitions around the region.
Juror's overall comments on the show:
"It's always a challenge to come into a room, or in this case rooms (and floors) of artwork and know your have to eliminate about two-thirds. What guides me in my selections are the foundations of any good artwork - composition, palette, subject matter, and point of view. I'm looking, always, for a fresh perspective from the artist, and excellence of execution. As with any juror, I bring my own take to the selection process - jurying is by its nature subjective, tempered with experience. I want to wish all of the artists, both those chosen for this exhibition and those not, the best in their future artistic endeavors."
