Drawing, printmaking, photography and sculpture
Overall Comments by Jurors: Christopher Gowell and Sarah Malakoff.
We are impressed by the diversity of materials, techniques, styles, and vision of this large body of work. The competency of technique remains consistently high from traditional to experimental form. We are also intrigued with the overlapping and blurring of media distinction that arises in our new digital age.

GHOST
Black and White Photograph
We are intrigued with the tension between the innocence of the child and the somewhat ominous ambiguity of the space. The high contrast, grainy texture, and quality of light contribute to the atmospheric mystery. Jurors: Christopher Gowell and Sarah Malakoff

COLONIAL INTERIOS #1
Color Photograph
A rigid formality is set up by the minimal use of color and simple geometry of the composition, but is counteracted by the soft patterned light coming through the window. This creates a wonderfully specific feeling of place. Jurors: Christopher Gowell and Sarah Malakoff

HART BITTE
Sculpture Red Stoneware soda fired with no glaze.
We were impressed with the monumental simplicity of this archetypal form. The soda glaze is a perfect finish for this excellent minimal piece. Jurors: Christopher Gowell and Sarah Malakoff

EARLY ARRIVALS
Lithograph
We appreciated the Oriental design of this vertical composition. The selection of color and its registration is striking. The stacked bird forms and their diagonal branches create a formal harmony. Jurors: Christopher Gowell and Sarah Malakoff

TEA TIME
Color photograph
We liked the play between the massive male nude and the exquisitely fragile teacup. The humorous subversion of the traditional nude subject matter in the photograph creates a contemporary irony. Jurors: Christopher Gowell and Sarah Malakoff

This is a clever, very creative and technically well-crafted multi-layered image. The preciousness of the travel book format transform into a unique three-dimensional sculpture that pulls the viewer in. Jurors: Christopher Gowell and Sarah Malakoff
