Title: Untitled II
Media: Oil
“There are so many elements in this small piece that I find compelling: the beautiful abstract quality of the lines, the delicate translucence of the skin, and lush and modeled color, to name just a few. The innate beauty of this work lies in its ability to transform a face into an exciting study in light and texture.”

“The fragility of the forms in this piece drew me to it immediately. The reflecting monochromatic figures that serpentine across the paper create a delicate and lyrical rhythm.”

“The juxtaposition in this piece of the carefully rendered bird and key and the free-form background, I find compelling. The use of text adds an additional layer of interest. There is a poetic nature to this work, both literal and figurative.”
Newburyport Area Industrial Development Foundation Award for Pastel $70
Artist: Janet MacLeod
Town: Newburyport, MA
Title: Autumn Reflections
Media: Pastel
“There is something truly beautiful about a work so completely distilled, and that relies so heavily on the key component of form and composition. The decision to use one color, almost exclusively, has allowed Ms. MacLeod to identify what exactly makes a compelling piece of art. There is a beautiful abstract quality to this work.”

“A milky and delicate light spreads across this canvas while a lingering stillness pervades the scene. There is a gorgeous luminosity in this work a glow that draws the viewer in.
