The Newburyport Art Association presents PLEIN AIR-PLUS; a Featured Artist exhibition with works by: Cynthia Cooper, Marie Crone, Eleanor Driscoll, Bob Gertz, Marjet Lesk, Carol Reynolds, Janet Sutherland, and Bud Smith AKA Jacob Towle. The show will feature watercolors, oils, acrylics, and pastels painted outdoors, as well as some studio subjects; still life and figurative.
The outdoor painting group seeded with members of the Association's Watercolor Group sets-up Thursday mornings at various locations in the region: Newbury's Upper Green, Silvergate, and Milestone Farm; Riverside, and The Paine House on Greenwood Farm in Ipswich; Amesbury Millyard; Kittery Point, Maine; The Merrimac River at Chain bridge and Maudslay State Park in Newburyport. The group is always seeking new locations, or permission to set-up on private property. Suggestions are welcome.
The difficulties of lugging equipment to a site or the discomfort of the heat, mosquitoes, and tics cannot deter the pure joy of painting on scene; feeling the serenity of being there and getting lost in the atmosphere of the work.
The resumes of the artists' compile an impressive variety of credentials, but more important than schools, workshops, shows, associations, and awards are their camaraderie and passion for painting.
The show opens August 16th and runs until August 22nd at The Newburyport Art Association, Sam Sargent Gallery, 65 Water Street, Newburyport, MA.
Hours are 10a.m. to 5p.m.
The public is invited to the opening reception August 17th, 7p.m.-9p.m.
