Maudslay Orchard - Skip Motes
Skip Motes, a resident of Newburyport, has painted in New England for the last fourteen years. His works interpret the local landscape in textured, gestural style. He paints with pastels, most of which he makes himself. Often, he paints into the pastel powder using a liquid binder, then adds layers of pastels to achieve a textured surface.
He has exhibited work in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Maine, and is president of the Newburyport Art Association. He was juried into the Distinguished Artist Category at the Concord (MA) Art Association, and has received numerous prizes for his conté drawings and pastel paintings in regional juried shows. He is a graduate of Princeton University and studied at the Silvermine School of Art, New Canaan, CT, where he twice received the Grace Shanely Award in Pastels.

American Graffiti, Venice Beach, CA - Marge Motes
Marge Motes, photographer, studied at Silvermine Art School, New Canaan, CT. She has won numerous awards for her black and white work. She is also a member of the Concord Art Association, Concord, MA. She became a distinguished artist of that association about 8 years ago.
Marge moved from CT to Newburyport, MA 6 years ago and became active in the Newburyport Art Association, where she is currently a board member. Her current work on American Flags is an outgrowth of work she began about 14 years ago. The American Flags in this show are part of a new series of pictures taken in 2000-2001, with a few from an earlier trip to CA. Many of these new flag pictures are found in the Newburyport, Amesbury and NH areas. The current works are in black and white and color. She is finding many friends calling to tell about new flags for her to photograph. |
