Sharyn Dahn: "Isles of Shoals and Beyond"
Open Daily 12 -5 pm Reception: Friday, Nov. 3, 6-8 pm
|
Sharyn G Dahn, a resident of the Newburyport area for the past 25 years, has returned to painting after a career in education and the sale of her gallery and frame shop. Experienced in acrylic painting, in which she used color and design to develop imaginative landscapes, she has recently developed an interest in watercolor and mixed water media. This interest has led her to study with Edward Minchin, a nationally known painter in the semi-abstract style.
Her paintings reflect her interest in the Isles of Shoals, a group of 9 islands 10 miles off the coasts of Maine and New Hampshire. This interest began with summer sails to Gossport Harbor and the purchase of a cottage on Appledore Island. Also inspired by the seascapes and gardenscapes of Child Hassam, her favorite subject has become the Isles of Shoals where she has stood on the jagged coast, viewing the surf washed rocks from dawn to dusk and in Celia Thaxter's garden noting the shape and color of all that grows within.
Beyond the Isles of Shoals her interest in painting reflects her interest in good design. Using color and shape, dark and light she develops layers of paint to pull the viewer in to a painting often inspired by the computer age of access around us all. Sharyn has exhibited her work and received awards locally at Cambridge Art Association, Newburyport Art Association, Artsnorth annual Juried Exhibit, West Newbury Celebration ofthe Arts and others. She is a signature member ofthe National Acrylic Painters Association and Juried Member of the Cambridge Art Association, Associate Member of the New England Watercolor Society and member of the Newburyport Art Association.
