Combinations refers not only to how watercolor paintings and photography have been combined into one exhibition but also to the technique of layering that Robert Streeter employs when producing his surrealistic images. All of the images employ traditional darkroom methods but in Streeter's dark room, film may be layered or physically bent before the final image is produced.
Only in one or two rare cases does Combinations refer to the actual combination of paint and photography as in the case of one particular photograph called "Armageddon", the opening image on Streeter's website (www.robertwilliamstreeter.com) which incorporates a painting by Metcalfe as one of the layered images.
Combinations also refers to this husband and wife team who have managed to combine two different nationalities (England and American) into a marriage that encourages them to explore visual art in two totally different ways.
Combinations will be exhibited in the new Hills Gallery at the Newburyport Art Association from August 22 through September 4 and will run concurrently with the NAA 5th Annual Members Photography Show from August 24 through September 17 in the adjacent Sargent Gallery. Just one more great combination!"
