"The Spirit of Light"
Photography
Laura Coombs Hills Gallery
Reception: Saturday, July 26, 2003 from 4-7PM

Light is essential to photography; light is the energy by which an image is produced and can be the primary expressive element and focus. Sunlight flowing through a window onto a table and chairs; light flowing through forest trees onto moss-covered rocks below: Light can awaken us to the beauty of objects and the moods of landscapes and can sensitize one's vision to its subtleties. That's the spirit of light.

The black and white photograph creates a distinctive world of imagination: of luminosity and elegance that provides the viewer with an exceptional aesthetic and emotional experience. A large format view camera is used to produce the exquisite, subtle black and white fine art photographs featured. They are carefully thought-out compositions, perfectly captured and masterfully printed, resulting in unique photographs that reveal the subtle detail, depth, and tonal variations possible with the large format view camera and the black and white medium.
