Painter Robin Luciano Beaty is a graduate of Massachusetts College of Art and is represented in many private and corporate collections as well as galleries around New England. Robin has won awards for her work in watercolor including The Laura Coombs Hills Award for General Excellence in Water-Based Media. Robin paints primarily from her travels to Mexico, Italy and Central America but also locally and throughout New England. Day to day life and the intriguing beauty that surrounds it is a reoccurring theme in her work. Markets, streetscapes, vendors, and the vivid color of culture are common subjects that inspire and influence her work.
Her first solo exhibition "Travels in Watercolor" was an amazing success selling 37 paintings in the series. “Translations” is an extension of “Travels in Watercolor” but is more expressive and contemplative, concentrating less on the location and more on the medium, texture and emotion. There is more of a focus on the artist experiencing the place rather then the focus being on the place itself.
“In this series I am more interested in how my travels have transformed my work and changed how I view the subject. This show is not a group of just landscapes and portraits but rather translations of memories and understandings I have arrived at through these travels. Thinking of these places I’ve visited in retrospect provides me the inspiration to shed the tourist and expose the traveler the traveler through life.” Beaty said.
In a review of Beaty’s work, a Melrose Free Press reporter wrote “Beaty takes viewers to familiar places they have never seen before. Her luminous watercolors evoke memories of other places, places where streetlights glow softly in a humid night or the harsh sunlight of late evening lights up weathered stucco walls. They offer a glimpse of something just around the corner to draw the viewer in. There is something about her paintings…” Brigid Alverson
On display, along with her travel paintings, will be portraits, local scenes and abstract pieces. Beaty's work can be viewed on the artists website www.zocaloarts.com.
