“QUIET PLACES, PEACEFUL SPACES”
In her art, Patricia strives to portray an idealized sense of peace and beauty in a style which she terms “expressive realism.” Through the use of color and simplified form, she guides her viewer into her interpretation of a particular scene, which she feels she must paint on a subconscious level. She is particularly drawn to coastal areas and country scenes, which are places that she finds very soothing and restorative.
What she wishes to convey with her paintings is a sense of peace and tranquility an escape from the pressures of our hectic everyday lives. She strives for a timeless, ethereal quality to emanate from her subject matter and settings, so that they radiate softness and luminosity. Her intuitive process while she is painting the creation of a calm, thoughtful mood - is the common theme in all of her work.
Raised in Virginia, Patricia received her B.A. degree in Fine Arts (Art History) from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg. While raising her three daughters in Nashua, NH, she has taken numerous studio art courses from Rivier College, the Nashua Center for the Arts, and the NH Institute of Art in Manchester, NH. Patricia attends the Saturday Life Group in Manchester, where she is able to work from live models to portray the nude human form. She is also developing her interest in painting her landscapes en plein air. Besides the Newburyport Art Association, Patricia is a member of the Nashua Area Artists’ Association, the Manchester Artists’ Association, and the Sharon Arts Center. Patricia is represented by Framers Market in Bedford, NH.
This is her first solo exhibition and will mainly feature oil landscapes inspired by visits to Monhegan and Ogunquit in Maine, Plum Island, and other New England locales. Some pastel figurative work will also be included.
