Acrylic paintings, representing land and seascapes by Ogunquit artist, Philip E. McCurdy, will be displayed May 5th to 11th, 2005, at the Laura Hills Gallery, Newburyport Art Association, 65 Water Street, Newburyport, MA.
McCurdy uses Maine seacoast vistas such as the Marginal Way in Ogunquit for most of his naturalistic paintings, but new this year are works from both Acadia National Park and Nova Scotia. He is a member of the York (Maine) and Newburyport (Mass.) Art Associations, the Art Guild of the Kennebunks, and a signature professional member of the International Society of Marine Painters. He teaches a popular beginning course -- You Can Paint! -- at Wells-Ogunquit Adult Community Education.
In a review the Coast Star reporter wrote, “McCurdy’s works capture the finite details so familiar to residents. When viewing his works, one truly feels they are physically present at the seascape locations! People say, ‘Oh, we know just where that is,’ or ‘I could climb right out on those rocks.’ ”
The opening public reception for the show is on Saturday, May 7th from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The Gallery is open Monday to Saturday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday from 12:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
