Peggy Omer has been painting watercolors and other mediums for more than 30 years. Her paintings are as varied as her interests and include flowers, seascapes, still-life, animals, landscapes and homes. Peggy’s work is characterized by a refreshing air of simplicity, with luminous washes. Her paintings include experimental techniques combined with more traditional applications of transparent, luminous watercolor.
Prior to moving to New England, she lived and painted on California’s Monterey Peninsula for 20 years where her work drew from the sweeping coastlines of Carmel and Big Sur. Most recently, Peggy returned from four months in Egypt where she found inspiration from the bustling streets of Cairo to the deep blue of the Mediterranean sea.
Peggy’s watercolor studies for Basbousa (an Egyptian dessert made with honey) range from a beautifully delineated and luminous hibiscus blossom to a delicately washed Big Sur seascape to a tone on tone representation of an ancient Pharonic temple.
Peggy’s most important influences are Jeanne Dobie, AWS (author of Making Color Sing), her studies at the New School of Art in Toronto, Canada, and the natural world that surrounds her. Her watercolors and Giclée prints are on Arches 100% cotton paper using Windsor and Newton watercolor paints. Peggy’s work has been exhibited in shows throughout California’s Central Coast, at the Newburyport Art Association as well as in private collections. She resides in Amesbury, MA.
