A Day in the Light

Gregory Street
Cheryl Dyment

Cheryl Dyment, one of the founding members of the "Women in the Wild" painting group, will exhibit her latest body of work in a show titled "On the Loose".  For this show, Dyment is going solo: she is, herself, "on the loose."  From the time she started painting, Dyment has wanted to work on a large scale.  Just over two years ago, she and her husband moved into their antique farmhouse and converted the second floor of the barn into her studio. Finally, she has had the opportunity to stretch not just in size, but in style, as well.

The majority of the paintings in the show will be new, never displayed work.  The paintings range in size from 30x48 (the largest) to a 6x12 (the smallest).  "On the Loose" is also indicative of the artist's style of painting...compositions provide the foundation from which Dyment uses her brushtrokes to show movement.  Her chosen palette provides the atmosphere, evoking an emotional response via the light that will guide you through and around the paintings. Dyment's subject matter remains the landscape and she still considers herself primarily a plein air painter in oils.  To learn more about the artist and see samples of her work, go to www.CherylDyment.com .

"On the Loose" will be presented at the Newburyport Art Association in the Laura Coombs Hills Gallery.  The show will run from May 1st to May 17th, 2008.  A reception will be held on Friday evening, May 2nd, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gallery. Refreshments will be served and the public is invited.  Gallery hours are: Sunday, 1-5 p.m, Monday-Saturday, 11-5 p.m.  Private showings can be accomodated by prior arrangement.  For further information, please contact the Newburyport Art Association at 978 465 8769.
