Sam Sargent Retrospective Exhibit, 1998

On Wednesday, March 10, 1948, Sam Sargent and 19 other artists joined to form the Newburyport Art Association. Sam, as founder, became the first president of the Association. The Sam Sargent Retrospective Exhibit, organized by Jean Snow, marked the 50th anniversary of the Newburyport Art Association, which is still a vibrant and growing organization dedicated to supporting the visual arts throughout the region. The information contained herein includes reproductions of Sam's paintings hung as part of the Retrospective and other Sargent paintings that have surfaced during the NAA's annual fundraising auction. In this way, Sam still supports the NAA and its mission, for which we remain grateful. The NAA offers a special "thanks" to Louanne Sargent, Sam's granddaughter, who generously funded the digital archive of this event.
