Formatting Images on a CD
The following is a suggested step-by-step process to use Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) to prepare your digital image.
1. Open File
2. Browse to locate image(s)
3. Crop artwork to show just the image (without mat or frame)
SIZE THE IMAGE (Images are sized digitally by a relationship between actual length and width and by dots per inch -DPI).
4. Select the image and select ‘resize’.
5. Check or highlight –constrained proportions (prevents stretching of the image), scale, and resample image (allows pixels to be increased or decreased, otherwise pixel changes will change the size).
6. Change inches to 6” on longest size (change just one side – it will automatically change the other).
7. Change pixels / inch (DPI) to 150. (Pixel dimension is determined by multiplying the DPI by the length and width of the image file. For example, 4 x 6 inches at 150 DPI = 600 x 900 pixel dimensions. DIMENSIONS SHOULD NOT EXCEED 900.)
8. Click on “OK”
9. Click on “File” and select “Save As” (name of the file).
NAMING THE FILE – “first name_last name_entry#.jpg”
Example – Sam_Sargent_Entry#1.jpg
10. Change format to jpg (not tiff, psd, pdf, jpeg 2000)
11. Burn to CD (Use a data disc and create a Closed Session CD, readable on all computers.)
12. CD must be labeled with artist’s name and show title,
artwork media and number of entries.
