The Newburyport Art Association will turn to the performing arts this spring,
when they welcome a full-length, one-man play into the gallery space on Water Street.
Vincent
a one man, two act play
"Vincent" tells the story of troubled artist Vincent Van Gogh. The plot of "Vincent" centers around Van Gogh's brother, Theo, who gathers friends together a week after his death "and tells them his side of the story, occasionally reading from Vincent's letters, and often playing the role of Vincent himself," according to the art association.
Throughout the show, on a large screen behind the action, the audience sees the artwork that Vincent was creating during the events Theo is depicting — a virtual tour of Van Gogh's lifetime of artistic work.
Theo takes his friends on a wild ride through Vincent's early years as a Bible-thumping preacher, then as the husband of a prostitute and eventually as an inmate in an insane asylum.
Performances are March 16, 17, and 18.
All performances begin at 8pm. Doors open at 7:30pm.
Tickets are $15 for the general public and $12 for NAA members.
To purchase tickets, call the NAA at 978-465-8769 or visit the gallery.
BE PART OF NAA HISTORY!
The Newburyport Art Association is pleased to announce its plan to create a beautiful and multi-use courtyard in the space just behind its historic 1795 brick building. The courtyard will support the NAA's efforts to provide stimulating programming and bring new audiences to its site, as well as, completment Newburyport's overall efforts to enhance tourism and economic development in the surrounding community. The courtyard will serve as a symbol of the NAA's efforts and commitment to build community through the arts.

2012 ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
Thank you to those members who attended the 2012 Annual Membership Meeting. The evening began with a social hour of wonderful food and drinks provided by our board of directors and Margo Pullman, co-coordinator of NAA Receptions. The Executive Director's report gave a summary of where the last year has taken the NAA as well as her vision for the coming year and beyond. Click here for the PDF of her Annual Report. It was a sad goodbye to some long time Board members who have put in countless volunteer hours both on the scene and "behind the curtain." We have not let them go without making sure they have all made commitments on various fronts to stay involved at the NAA and we will continue to reap the rewards of their talents and energy.
Along with goodbyes, come hellos. We have elected a new president, Kelly Gray and vice president, Jay McCarthy as well as a new board member Bonita LeFlore. We are excited to start the year with their new energies and voices as we set out to grow the NAA in the coming years.
Artist members Lisa Victoria and John Maciejowski were the winners of our Annual Meeting raffle - Lisa won a 2012 Artist Plus membership and John won a brick for the new courtyard! Congratulations!
The membership was joined by students from Deborah Szabo's Creative Writing Class at the Newburport High School who joined us to share the end-products of an exercise they participated in last fall blending the visual arts and creative writing.
They arrived on a rainy blustery day in October to take in the sights of the Fall Members Juried Show, Part One. Their assignment was to find a work that spoke to them, and write about it... whatever that meant to them. We were treated to a reading of their writings by four of the students, seen below along with their teacher , Rhina Espillat, NAA Artist Member and Elena Bachrach, NAA Executive Director. Their poise and creativity drew smiles, laughter, and pause for thought as we traveled to the world they saw in our works. Stay tuned for thier writings and the images that inspired them!
