Jurors' Statement
We are truly honored to be part of the Winter Members Juried Show. We were delighted by the wonderful body of outstanding works and were truly impressed by the level of artistry and skill. It was not an easy task to refine the selected pieces for the show. Even harder, was having to limit the honorable mentions to so few when so many were deserving. The body of works were marvelously diverse, engaging and thought provoking. We thoroughly enjoyed the process of working with the diligent and highly organized staff and volunteers. They made our visit and our job of jurying this show a pleasure. We look forward to the second phase of the second show with eager anticipation. To those whose work was not included, we encourage you to continue in your artistic endeavors, to find your individual artistic style, and would like to reiterate that this was not an easy task of elimination. Thank you again for including us. We’ve had a blast.

Robin Thornhill
Stage Harbor Lighthouse
An exquisitely lit piece with a powerful sky illuminating an architectural edifice that despite its diminutive size, captures and holds the viewer’s attention. One immediately wants to follow the path in the foreground to the lighthouse on the horizon. Excellent composition.

Sunrise - Maine Coast
This piece epitomizes the energy and power when ocean and rocks collide. Robin’s remarkable rendering of the delicacy of the spray in contrast of what we know to be the fury of the ocean as depicted, being simultaneously alluring and forbidding.

Artist Collaboration Opportunities
Join your fellow Sculptors for 6 weeks
Sculptors will share the process of sculpting with other sculptors. The workshop is open to all levels. This is a great way to share the cost of a long pose figure model ($50 per night) to complete a finished sculpture. You may bring your own clay and armatures, or buy water based clay from the Coordinator ($13. per 25 lb. bag). Participants may work on reliefs, portraits, or full figure.
Total cost for 6 weeks, $75 for NAA members, $100 for non-members. Thursdays, 7-9pm, beginning Feb 9. Coordinator, Marilyn Coon. For more details, click here. Space is limited to ten sculptors. Registration opens Jan 9, 2012.
Sketchbook Club
Create more by joining the Sketchbook Club this year! We will meet once a month to discuss, create, collaborate and share ideas using sketchbooks. Each month will feature a new challenge whether it be a theme or a new medium to try out. Just like a reading group, members will decide the direction and focus of each month's challenge. It's an opportunity to share and learn with others. Let's exercise our creativity together!
Our first organizational meeting will be Jan. 22 at 1:30pm at the Newburyport Art Association. Please email any questions or suggestions to Chris Robinson
